I have not figured out the best angle for this video camera, and have yet to figure out how to look at the camera instead of myself on the screen but I thought it would be interesting to try a few video posts. I am going to try and use video posts as a devotional tool. Please respond to the thoughts as well as the format.

Ok, so I am remiss on doing any real original posts leading up to this holiday season. With a job change and a new baby on the way, as well ...

I like this new format! It made me listen to the whole thought and really think about the topic.
As far as the daily bread I do think it is a reminder to rely on God daily. There is something personal and important about our daily bread as it is something we have to have to live. It makes us realize that God is the provider of the daily necessity of food which is difficult for us as Americans to conceptualize due to our over abundance of recourses. But to pray this prayer reminds us that it is a daily trust exercise in God.
Thanks Gretchen.
I think there is something too about how our "spiritual" lives are not separated from our daily needs.
Clint, this is a great idea. These short "thoughts" or interpretation of particular passages has a lot of potential. I have not seen this done before on video. Do you remember Reverend Arno in Homer. He has been doing a daily "Thoughts to Ponder" program on the radio in Homer for many years and still maintains a very good audience even though he has retired. I like the concept and you should continue to develop the idea. Perhaps, even change your back drop occasionally to outside settings. You can play with the length but I like the length of 3 - 5 minutes, even if you have to divide the longer messages into segments over a period of several days. Perhaps, just a light touch of background inspirational music would also be appropriate as long as it does not compete with your voice. Really like your idea and looking forward to you developing it further. Good luck with the project.
Thanks Stan. I do remember Rev. Arno, although I never attended his church. It is always impressive when a pastor continues in a ministry in one place over the long haul.
When I was in Homer we attended two churches. Faith Baptist briefly, but had some difficulties there with some of the leadership. Then we attended Homer Christian. That church had a lot of folks with connections around Anchor Point like the Harris family. Mr. Harris taught my Sunday School class.
I like this, in fact right after I read your Sunday sermon (last Sunday), I was thinking it would be tens times better if I could have heard you.
As for our daily bread...
"Our "spiritual" lives are not separated from our daily needs."
I think you said my thoughts better then I could.
I think the point you make about us being an affluent society is a good one. We lose a lot of our understanding of certain things taught in the Bible just because our lives are so comfortable compared with different times/places. I was just thinking about this while preparing my study for tomorrow because of the line about the camel going through the eye of a needle and how we try to rationalize that one.
-As to the format, Becky just put a web cam on Nick's computer so she could skype, and he has to put a post it note over the camera eye so he doesn't feel like he's being watched all the time while using his computer. Also, does this mean CHOW on skype is now a possibility? ;)
Clint, this is a good subject and even though I have thought of what each sentence of "The Lord's Prayer" means, you brought out some thought provoking questions. In Mark 11:1 one of Jesus' deciples asked him to teach them to pray; therefore, the Lord's Prayer came from Jesus. "Give us this day our daily bread" always meant to me to make sure we had enough to eat, but when I was listening to you, it became clear to me that it could mean as you said, our daily needs as it is God's will. He knows what we need and when we ask Him to give us our daily bread, we are actually asking Him to give us what we need. The only part of the prayer that I am not certain of the meaning simply because of where it is in the Lord's prayer is "thy Kingdom Come." The rest of the prayer is self explanatory.
Now about your comment on my blog when I wrote about Jason the Bachelor. When Jason was a contestant on the Bachelor, DeAnna Pappas humilated him also by leading him to believe that she loved him and would probably pick him; therefore, Jason proposed to her on the show and she turned him down in front of everyone. I have read a great deal of the story. DeAnna dumped the guy she picked and is not longer with him and according to one of the stories I read; she admitted she had made a mistake by not picking Jason. As I said, there are two sides to every story. Therefore, we must agree to disagree.
Oh my goodness, I have to be honest, I was not that focused on your actual words. Sean was laughing at me cuz tears were streaming down my face - it felt so amazing to actually hear your voice and "see" you again. WOW - friend - I guess I have missed you more than I even realized!
I think "give us our daily bread" is not only about our food needs, and not even about our physical needs, but a good symbolism of depending upon God for all of our needs, every one of them can be answered to by Him.
LOVE the video format!
@heidi--i think my sermon was written more for hearing than reading...so I am glad you could be helped by the video. I see where reading the sermon is frustrating.
@Steve--thanks. And no, cannot teach via skype.
@momma bear--thanks for the feedback
@michele--you are so sweet. Thanks for helping me feel loved.
. . . "our spiritual lives are not separated from our daily needs" . . . and "our daily bread rather than my daily bread/we are all in this together" . . . those thoughts shimmer for me . . .
wow! I agree to see you and hear your voice brings so much MORE to your words . . . love it!!!
