Oh, I just figured out that that isn't your church? Anyway, I thought about your comments from a few weeks ago this morning. Our pastor spoke about the importance of praising at church: dancing, singing, waving hands, making loud praise, clapping and all that. I'm having problems with this. He said hes gonna start a praise police force and those who ain't praising, will get called out to go home. He was kidding, but man, I don't want to sing and dance and clap and shout at church. He said its pride.
Do really think God has a preferred style of worship? Do you think he says that a Pentecostal Black Church is better than a liturgical Hispanic style of worship? I think the matter is what is in your heart.
It could be pride. Is the only reason you are not wanting to join in this style of worship is because you feel self conscious. Or is it just not "real" to you?
Cause it could also be that this is just not the way that you connect with God personally.
My struggle with many black churches and my current white churches in the same. It seems like it is more about a performance than it is about the presence of God. And when the presence of God feels absent, even if there is a lot of hootin and hollerin to make up for it, it is a hard service to endure.
Sounds like the pastor gave you something to think about and ponder and examine your heart about. Isn't that the purpose of preaching in the first place.
Hmm, good thoughts. I think my problem is that I'm just not a person who likes expressing myself that way publically. I don't like dance floors at nightclubs either, however I will get out there. I don't know. But one guy I spoke with this week said that I need to get involved in church groups, bible studies, mens groups and such. That way the Sunday service won't be such a big thing for me.
