Soldotna man charged with assault

By PATRICE KOHL
Peninsula Clarion

A Kenai Middle School teacher has been arrested on a first-degree charge of sexual assault involving an 18-year-old woman from Kenai and on a charge of furnishing alcohol to two minors.

Investigators from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation arrested Erik Larson, 33, of Soldotna, this weekend after it received a report of sexual assault at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.

Larson teaches special education classes and has been teaching since the fall of 2002. According to Alaska Statute 12.55, first-degree sexual assault is an unclassified felony and can result in up to $500,000 in fines and 40 years in prison.

Investigators have and are continuing to conduct a thorough investigation of the case, said Greg Wilkinson, Alaska State Troopers spokesman.

“He wouldn’t have been arrested if we didn’t feel we had a solid case,” Wilkinson said.

Larson has been remanded to Wildwood Correctional Center.

My heart hurts when this sort of thing happens. Even worse when people you know are involved.

I grew up with Erik, and it's been tough to figure out how to deal with this news. Have you heard anything about sentencing, etc?
